Clara Kappelhoff is the name Doris Day is said to go by these days; Clara is a long-time nickname, Kappelhoff was her birth name. CAPTAIN Dominic James, piloting a medivac flight from Samoa to Melbourne, could not have guessed that he would face the ordeal of his flying career in the waters off Norfolk Island on Wednesday night. On board his Pel-Air Westwind jet as he approached the island for a refuelling stop were a co-pilot, a patient and a spouse and two CareFlight medical officers. The weather was bad and worsening, the night devoid of moonlight, the fuel in the jet's tanks low.

State human services officials were justified in removing children living at the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries last year for their own protection, the state Court of Appeals ruled today. In three separate opinions, the court concluded there was enough evidence to support the state Department of Human Services' decision to remove the children following a September 2008 raid on the Alamo compound in Fouke.
